Traffic Enforcement

The Albion Police Department began in 1975 with one officer.  Traffic enforcement was then and always has been one of the main functions of a Police Offiers patrol duties.

The Albion Police Department investigates many automobile accidents each year. Local law enforcement agencies like the county sheriff's office investigate many more. The Nebraska Department of Roads reports regularly on these statistics on their website. Follow this link for the most up-to-date reports available.  http://www.dor.state.ne.us/highway-safety/

Today, approximately  4 officers patrol nearly 10,000 miles a year of Albion streets and highways.

One of the functions of a Patrol Officer is to enforce Nebraska's traffic laws, including laws related to speeding. Nebraska statute 60-682.01 prescribes the following fines for speeding violations. It also prescribes that all fines are doubled if the speeding occurs in a "maintenance, repair, or construction zone."

Checking Your Speedometer

Worried that your speedometer may not be accurate? You can check it with a stopwatch. Drive at a steady speed and have a passenger start the watch when you pass a mile marker and stop it when you pass the next mile marker. For best results, measure while driving on a straight stretch of road.
